Posted - 12 Aug 2020 : 22:29:05 As I've been focusing more and more on my writing, I have found that getting into the nitty-gritty personality traits about characters to be very helpful to determine how they react in any given situation. There are a few different systems you can use, but I think one of the most beloved is the Myers Briggs system. Maybe some of have you heard of it? Actually, they even have articles that relate to character creation and how their system can be used. Give the free test a go:
www.16personalities.com
I love identifying the personalities of fictional characters. For example; 16personalities types some LOTR characters:
Analysts Gandalf: INTJ - Architect
Diplomats Galadriel: INFJ - Advocate Aragorn: INFJ - Advocate Frodo Baggins: INFP - Mediator Arwen: INFP - Mediator
Sentinels Samwise Gamgee: ISFJ - Defender
Explorers Eowyn - ISFP - Adventurer Peregrin Took: ESFP - Entertainer
Some Game of Thrones characters:
Analysts Aemon Targaryen: INTP - Logician Lord Varys: INTP - Logician Petyr Baelish "Littlefinger": INTJ - Architect Tywin Lannister: INTJ - Architect Tyrion Lannister: ENTP - Debater
Diplomats Jon Snow: INFJ - Advocate Daenerys Targaryen: ENFJ - Protagonist
Sentinels Eddard Stark: ISTJ - Logistician Stannis Baratheon: ISTJ - Logistician Catelyn Stark: ISFJ - Defender Robb Stark: ESTJ - Executive Sansa Stark: ESFJ - Consul Cersei Lannister: ESFJ - Consul
Explorers Arya Stark: ISTP - Virtuoso Jamie Lannister: ESTP - Entrepreneur Ygritte: ESFP - Entertainer
So now that you have some examples and may have taken the test yourself, try and type the DL characters. Here is the starting list:
Tanis Laurana Kitiara Sturm Tas Flint Caramon Raistlin Riverwind Goldmoon
Lastly, feel free to mention your own type when you guess at the DL characters! |

Posted - 24 Feb 2022 : 16:54:19 This must have been too cerebral, yes? lol. Writer's use these to craft their characters all the time now that it has become so popular. Although a mother/daughter combo had invented MBTI categorizations, it is actually based off the work of psychologist Carl Jung. Dragonlance characters were never created like this, but they were the avatars of real people who were playing D&D, right?
I think it's fun to link your own personality to fictional characters, especially Dragonlance characters . This might make it more interesting for everyone lol--I'll go first: I'm an INFJ, so my fictional characters would include:
Jon Snow (Game of Thrones) Remus Lupin (Harry Potter) Aragorn (LoTR) Galadriel (LoTR) Obi Wan Kenobi (Star Wars) Loki (Marvel) Goldmoon (Dragonlance -- according to a Reddit post I found lol)
Actually, I do think that Goldmoon fits the INFJ type. As we know, she is a healer/advocate/saintly type character which coincides nicely with some of the real world examples such Martin Luther Kind and Mother Teresa. Carl Jung himself was said to be an INFJ as well.
Here is the Reddit list I found, do you think these are correct? And who do you line up with and do you agree?
