Okay, some of you may remember that a while back I posted a Dragonlance spellbook on these forums. These spells where taken from the Dragonlance books, and I referenced them with the 2nd Edition Players Handbook to get spell components and casting instructions. I have noticed some people putting my work to good use, so I went back to see if I could find any more spells. I did. Without further ado:
TELEPORT WITHOUT ERROR:
Stand close to those you wish to teleport with you, so that they are near enough to touch. Visualize your destination and say, "Nal Igira!" (Nahl ee-GEE-rah)
CRUSHING HAND (known elsewhere as Bigby's Crushing Hand):
To cast this spell, you must have in your possession a glove of snakeskin wrapped around the shell of an egg. Extending your power (or primary) hand toward your target, place your other hand upon the glove and shell. Say, "Digas ne vimi!" (DEE-gahs neh VEE-mee)
Now your my request... on page 284 of "Night of the Eye", volume 1 of the Defenders of Magic trilogy, there is a spell I have yet to figure out. Belize turns Esme into a small statue by using the incantation "Ligir." While in this form, she can not see or hear, and is unaware of the passage of time. I thought it might be a form of Polymorph Other, but the drastic change in mass would suggest otherwise. Any help would be appreciated.

Come on, someone out there must be able to help me out. Defenders of Magic trilogy, Volume 1, Night of the Eye, page 284, paragraphs 5 through 7. What is this spell? Anyone?

Give us an excerpt of the passage and I will see what I can do. I am ashamed to admit that I don't own, nor have I read all of the DragonLance books.

A character named Esme was turned into a little ceramic statue by a mage named Belize. In this form, she was unaware of both her surroundings and the passage of time. The excerpt is as follows:
The mage reached toward Esme and slowly closed his fingers. "Ligir."
Esme screamed as her bones began to contract, snapping and popping in protest. Her heart thundered like the steps of a giant in pursuit, then reversed its pace and steadily slowed. Beyond the excruciating pain, she felt her pulse's last terrified, fluttering beats as the world grew larger, then silent as snow.
When Belize uncurled his fingers, on his pasty palm lay a ceramic statue of a golden-haired woman in trousers and tunic.

I don't think there is a D&D spell that that is supposed to represent. The closest that comes to it I'd say would be turn to stone. But it doesn't alter the targets size and they would be stone, noot ceramic. There could be a newer splat book out with a similar spell for 3.5 edition, but for when the book was written there was no spell at the time like it. It was probably just the author taking some creative license, which they do on occasion. |

Okay, I think I have it:
POLYMORPH ANY OBJECT:
Have in your secondary hand a bit of gum arabic which has been blended with mercury and smoke. Extend your power hand toward your target. Close your fingers in a grasping motion and say, "Ligir!" (lee-JEER)
This spell, listed in the AD&D 2nd edition PHB on page 191 states that objects can be changed in mass and size, and even gives an example of turning a character to stone, or turning a turnip into a purple worm. It looks like the mystery has been solved.

Now, for my next question:
I recall reading in one of the Dragonlance novels the POLYMORPH OTHER spell. It specified a caterpillar cocoon as the material component, but I can't recall what incantation it gave. If anyone can help me locate the incantation, I would be able to complete the spell and add it to our spellbook. That would bring our spell total up to 20. Any help would be appreciated.

Check the first book of the Tales series, specifically the tale where Raistlin turns the companions into small animals (not realistically within his power before the Test). Or maybe "A Shaggy Dog's Tale" from the same book.
The Tale of Huma might have a few tidbits from Magius. If you're willing to delve into the abyssmal Preludes series, Tanis' Preludes book has something like a Mass Mirror-Image. |

According to Brothers in Arms, the material component for magic missile is a piece of fur however can be cast without it if need be. Casting without the fur reduces cast time but the spell is not as powerful.

After much research, I have some more spells to add to the spellbook. Most of these are drawn from Divine Hammer, and I will be going over the other books in that series over the next few days... so I may have more for you soon. This brings the spellbook up to 28 spells so far.
ADVANCED ILLUSION: Wrap several grains of sand in a bit of fleece. Hold these in your receptive hand, and hold your power hand toward where the illusion is to manifest. Say, "Arvayas gro weshann, culpit to-sati harbandith!" (ahr-VAY-ahs groe weh-SHAH-nehn, KOOL-peet toe-SAH-tee hahr-BAHN-deeth)
ASTRAL SPELL: Relax, or meditate, and say, "Kair tsavandai ja bulondik, hi yugann oidil shalatiya!" (kare tsah-VAHN-die yah boo-LOHN-deek, hee YOO-gahn oy-DEEL shah-lah-TEE-yah)
CHAIN LIGHTNING: Take a piece of amber, glass, or a crystal rod and wrap it in a piece of fur. Add to this bundle a number of silver pins equal to your rank in the Orders of High Sorcery. Hol dthis bundle in your receptive hand, and point your power hand toward your first target. Say, "Sylar cu monaviok, sho jebus loinonn!" (SIE-lahr koo moe-NAH-vee-ok, shoh YEH-boos loy-NAH-nehn)
DIMENSION DOOR: Visualize your destination and say, "Kushat!" (KOO-shaht)
DOMINATION: Prick your fingertip with a needle, then prick your target. Press your blood to theirs and say, "Yasanth cai mowato, i shasson gamdir. Dolaz jatran olo nedrufis!" (YAH-sah-neth kie moh-WAH-toh, ee SHAH-son gam-DEER. DOH-lahz jah-TRAHN oh-loh neh-droo-FEES)
INVISIBILITY: Pluck one of your eyelashes, roll it into a ball of gum arabic, and say, "Ristak pur koivannon, sha pangit felori!" (REE-stahk per KOY-vahn-nahn, shah pan-JEET feh-LOR-ee)
MAGIC MIRROR: Hold your power hand over or before a mirror or bowl of water. Say, "Medang sulatar, as prawut jenai. Tantamolo yi arkas!" (meh-DANG SOO-lah-tahr, ahs PRAH-woot yeh-NIE. tahn-tah-MOE-loe yee AHR-kahs)
TELEKENISIS: Gesture with your power hand towards your target and say, "Ka movani delarang, ejaran su fuwato!" (kah moe-VAH-nee deh-lah-RANG, eh-JAR-ehn soo joo-WAH-toe)
Everyone up to speed? Good. Now back to the books for me to get you all some more.

During the Age of Might, the Kingpriest of Istar ordered mages hunted down as heretics. During this time of terror and bloodshed, many ancient magics were lost. Now, centuries later, the discovery of a collection of hidden tomes has brought some of these forgotten spells to light. (In other words, I haven't been able to find these spells in the gaming source books... so I have no idea what their actual names would be. Any help would be appreciated) They are as follows:
ANIMATE: This spell enables the caster to imbue an object or group of objects with temporary, artificial life. This is traditionally performed on statues for the purpose of guarding a bastion of magic. Waving both hands in the direction of the objects to be animated, say, "Obai deafas, jolifi mur latanniath!" (OH-bie deh-AH-fahs, yoe-LEE-fee mer lah-TAHN-nee-ahth)
CHANNELING: This spell allows mages to channel their power into a single recipient so that he or she may cast magics normally beyond their ability. The contributing mages must stand in a circle about the recipient, and weave their hands through a repeating spiral-cross pattern. The mages then say, "Mapothi sek bunaru, jandoth lo shakar. Fas uganti yasham, tsarlas gangatiad!" (mah-POE-thee sehk boo-NAH-roo, YAH-neh-doth loe shah-KAHR. fahs oo-GAHN-tee yah-SHAHM, TSAR-lahs bahn-GAH-tee-add) The mages then extend both arms toward the recipient and say, "Kusat kelas bandonai!" (koo-SAHT KEH-lahs bahn-DOE-nie)
PSYCHIC BURROWERS: This spells causes tentacles to extend from a piece of jet and burrow into the mind of your target. The targetwill die in the process, but their knowledge will be yours. Hold the jet, or the object in which it is mounted, in your receiving hand, and direct your power hand toward your target. Say, "Ea kelgabon murvani ngartud lo purvanonn!" (EE-ah KEHL-gah-bohn mer-VAH-nee neh-GAR-tood loh PER-vah-nohn)
STRANGLE: This compresses the targets lungs, causing him to violently suffocate. Simply point your power hand toward your target while making a squeezing motion with your fingers and say, "Obrut ku movani, yatho viskos daldannu!" (OH-broot koo moh-VAH-nee, YAH-thoe VEES-koes dahl-DAHN-noo)
SUMMON IMP: This spell summons a lesser denizen from the Abyss. To cast this, you need a pool of water which is illuminated from within by a ruby enchanted to glow. You will also need a dagger to perform this spell. Holding the dagger in one hand, extend your other hand over the pool. Say, "Suvet kajanto asofik yabengis zo. Daku faban harga, ben odu lamorai!" (SOO-veht kah-JAHN-toe ah-SOH-feek yah-BEHN-gees zoe. DAH-koo fah-BAHN HAHR-gah, behn OH-doo lah-MOR-ie) At this, use the dagger to sever one of your extended fingers and let the digit fall into the pool. When the Imp rises to the surface of the water, extract it, uncover its face, and feed it with your still-flowing blood. It will then be bound to your will.
