The best advice I could give you is to never give up.
I'll save you the trouble of finding out the hard way: You will get rejected. Again, and again, and again.
But don't let that trouble you. Keep submitting and if you have to, re-drafting the story and eventually it will happen.
Take it from someone who's been published. It's not easy.

I think there is a Dragonrider's of Pern story named the same thing but don't quote me on that. I just started that series. Check Wikipedia.
