Hey Everyone,
Sorcerer's Place has posted a new Dragonlance interview with Scriptwriter George Strayton. Additionally there is a new Tasslehoff clip from the film available with the interview.

Hmmmm... I can't complain. That isn't what I expected Tas to sound like, but I have no problems with it. The more I think about it, the more I like it, kinda like Tas in the books. LOL
Oh, and Mr. Strayton just moved a couple of notches higher in my estimation. He DMs THREE games? I can't even do one right! Oh yeah, he is an accomplished screenwriter, sourcebook writer and game designer. HOLY CRAP! Ummmm, he gets no criticism from me.
Thank you for providing the link, Shane.

Bupu, you have been a good and true friend to me. You saved my life and the lives of those I care about. Now you will do one last thing for me, little one. Go back. I must travel roads that will be dark and dangerous before the end of my long journey. I cannot ask you to go with me. |

Oh God damn it. They have yet again given us something else to complain about. They've screwed up Tas Hoopak staff that is probably second most powerful iconic image in dragonlance second to Raistlin's "hour glass" eyes.
Any one notice yet another scene located around barren rocky hills? Actually that tiny clip was kind of boring and uninteresting in a visual way. Then again so was that other clip of Sturm, Tanis and Flint sitting at the table and knocking back a few beers.

Welcome back, Tonka.
I can't even bring myself to complain about the animation at this point. I'm just happy to see some effort put into showing us something.
Need more though. |

I'm glad its quick time, but I don't have it on my work computer arg! Damn firewalls can't download it either... grumble grumble grumble...
No Eben Shatterstone eh? I'm surious to see how that goes. I mean, will we see tas and Fizban in the art room with the dragon paintings and fluff ball? And the mechanism being released? How will they encorporate the gemstone man? These aren't critisims. I'm now even more anxious to watch this film!

I didn't even look at the stick, to be honest. Saying that it's the "second most powerful" image is giving it a bit too much importance, methinks. But whatever. Nice to have you back.

Um... I would say Caramon's helmet, the blue crystal staff, the staff of magius, Sturm's sword, tas's topknot, tanis's beard, Flint's helm and tas's pouches (no particular order) rank above a hoopak. I haven't been able to check it out yet to see how bad it really is, if it is at all. But there are plenty of other iconic images in DL beside a forked willow branch with a sling on it. I also can't imagine it would be hard to draw/animate that, so if they did mess it up.... *sigh*

Honestly, the hoopak isn't that big of a deal. I've seen it drawn that way before. I just can't remember where right of hand. It was on one of the source books, I think. I wouldn't have noticed it if you hadn't mentioned it, Tonka.
But the clip does get funnier everytime I watch it.

I don't think the hoopak is that important and I didn't even notice it. I certainly can't understand why they changed it from a forked stick to a straight stick but it doesn't really bother me that much.

*cries* What have they done to Tas' voice? They call that shrill?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but that part of the movie is supposed to be the encounter with the Dracos, right? With the characters huddling at the edge of the forest? No forest... No road... Barren mountains though... I could care less about a hoopak that looks more like a staff-sling at this point in time. (Oh and don't forget about Eben... holy shit! Minor character he may be, but talk about a pivotal plot-point though.)
Everything I get to see from this movie just makes me more depressed. Maybe I should just give up on the whole thing and let it sink into oblivion instead. |

Yeah, I hate to sound negative, but my first thoughts were that I didn't like Tas' voice and that they screwed up the hoopak. Seriously, what kind of lack of attention to detail does it take to screw up the freaking hoopak? |

It really seems to me that most of the people involved really wanted to do more with the movie, but were on far too tight of a leash, so to speak.
After re-reading the articles a few times it makes me a bit more sympathetic to those involved directly with the movie (other than the animators).
I really think now that the movie might end up as a sort of "Look guys, we did the best with what we had" sort of deal.
It's a shame the script had to be so thoroughly condensed. |
