Now, if they were to make a DL movie out of the chronicales, which seems like an obvious choice, how would the movie makers do solace. You would have to admnit a city made of giant trees connected by bridges with houses in them would be pretty hard to do. They could do it with special effects, but i personaly do not think of that as a very good idea as it might look a little cheesey. So here is my question to all on these boards.
Where and how should they create Solace?

Hrm, that's a good question. I'm thinking it needs to be done in the woods, probably set up big tree houses - but only 2 or three, the others be computer generated? I'm not quite sure, I've seen a movie where it was similar - I think the concept in "Time Machine" (the crappy recent movie), is similar too. If you've seen it they set up houses or huts along the side of a huge side of a mountain. I'm sure those weren't real, but they looked real enough. Probably with the right technology they could do something like that?
You're right though, it SOUNDS like it would be cheasy. I have to admit though, the time Machine graphics were kind of cool. I'm not sure how they'd do something like that - does anyone know how they were created if it wasn't by computer graphics? Plus, the burning of Solace would easily be accomplished on a computer. Then again, you have your good movies that makes fire realistic and your crappy movies (I sure hope they put some time in effort into both the fire and the actual designs for the Dragons).
The entire scene shouldn't be computer created - perhaps they'd set up the graphics built around a real nice location. I remember reading about some area where the trees were the largest in the world - I'm not quite sure whether or not if it was in the states, but that would be cool.

Watch the extra stuff on the collectors edition of LOTR. The way they did rivendale and loren would most likely be the way they would do solace. And it worked great for LOTR so I think it would be great for DL as well :)

if you compare every book to lotrs, then you'll never find an origional book. and way back to the topic at hand. Prehaps they coulddo a mix of really trees and cgi tree, like film the angel at the red woods or some other national part with huge trees and cgi some house in or make houses on a green back and mix and match. I don't know just throwing ideas out there.

Redwood forests of the West Coast would be a good idea for Solace, although some of the trees r probably too big to live in, but it is hard to find a good place to film Solace.

That sounds about as logical as sticking Clark Duncan in the closet to make him white... Not goina work... Hehehe... But I think they'd have to CGI a big part of the woods, and I don't thing size matters in soloce, they seemed to be huge tree's anyway...
(Rereads post... Size doesn't matter... Hmmmmm.... Thats not a setup for lewd remarks, Gobby.)

Hey we could make him white by sticking him in a closet.
