From the D&D game module, DL1: Dragons of Despair
Music/lyrics by Tracy Hickman, Carl Smith, Michael Williams.
Performed by Alex Harman.

This is the song Goldmoon sings in the Inn of the Last Home in Dragons of Autumn Twilight, which almost causes a riot. In the game modules the opening is a bit different. All six of the Innfellows meet on the road outside of Solace, and then encounter Goldmoon and Riverwind on their way into town; the latter pair are just putting the finishing touches on this song about their relationship. Goldmoon accompanies herself on a lyre, while Riverwind plays a flute in unison with her singing (with a couple of chords added during the chorus which a voice cannot duplicate).

I've made one minor alteration to the original sheet music, changing a B-minor chord to a C-major seventh at the end of the second line of each verse (concurrent with the word "son" in verse one). There's no special reason for this, it just sounded better to me.

Lyrics:

Verse 1:
The grasslands are endless, and summer sings on,
And Goldmoon the princess loves a poor man's son,
Her father the chieftain makes long roads between them.
The grasslands are endless and summer sings on.

Verse 2:
The grasslands are waving, the sky's rim is gray.
The chieftain sends Riverwind east and away,
To search for strong magic at the lip of the morning.
The grasslands are waving, the sky's rim is gray.

Chorus:
Oh Riverwind, where have you gone?
Oh Riverwind autumn comes on....
I sit by the river and look to the sunrise,
But the sun rises over the mountains alone.

Verse 3:
The grasslands are fading, the summer wind dies.
He comes back, the darkness of stones in his eyes,
He carries a blue staff as bright as a glacier.
The grasslands are fading, the summer wind dies,

Verse 4:
The grasslands are fragile, as yellow as flame.
The chieftain makes mockery of Riverwind's claim,
He orders the people to stone the young warrior.
The grasslands are fragile, as yellow as flame.

Verse 5:
The grasslands are faded, and autumn is here.
The girl joins her lover, the stones whistle near,
The staff flares in blue light and both of them vanish.
The grasslands are faded, and autumn is here.

Chorus:
Oh Riverwind, where have you gone?
Oh Riverwind autumn comes on....
I sit by the river and look to the sunrise,
But the sun rises over the mountains alone: The autumn is here.
